Ramadan Buffet @ Paya Serai Restaurant, PJ Hilton

Courtesy to Rebecca and PJ Hilton, I am invited to the Ramadan Buffet at Paya Seri Restaurant. Well, ramadan is getting near and it is no surprise my blog currently is full with foods :P

This year, Paya Serai is going back to the very essence of “kampong” style cooking by incorporating classic Ramadhan dishes as well as some new signatures created by the hotel’s Malay chef, Chef Noor Hisham. In keeping up with the new look and feel of the recently refurbished Hilton PJ, Chef is presenting new dishes to mark the fresh, new and vibrant outlook of the hotel, inspired by each chef’s home town.

Sup Gearbox is actually a bowl of soup with accents of beef shank, potatoes and also carrots. The name gearbox was actually derived from the beef shank physical look, which like a gearbox. The taste in the soup was pretty well blended and the beef shank is totally tender. I am adding this soup as one of my favorite soup ;)

Ikan Patin Bakar Tempoyak is a grilled catfish marinated in bird's eye chili, lemongrass, ginger and shallots wrapped in banana leaf. The fish we were served was thoroughly cooked and yet its flesh is flaky soft and it retains its natural moistness.

Udang Goreng Daun Kari is cooked by fresh tiger prawns with fragrant curry leaves. As you can expect the curry leaves do enhance the taste and smell of the prawn. Abit similar to the usual chinese way of cooking.

Mee Rebus Tulang Kambing is a noodles served with lamb ina chili-and-shrimp broth. Nothing much to shout.

Lamb Shank Briyani is seasoned with different spices and cooked with ghee. Nothing much to shout as well. Taste mediocre.

Bubur Lambuk is cooked with spices, beef and dried shrimp. I guess this is my first time seeing porridge in buffet. Anyway, nothing much to shout again. Just taste mediocre.

Ikan Terubuk Panggang has alot of bones! One of the reason why I dislike the fish is because of the bones. Nevertheless, it is grilled river herring marinated with chef's secret ingredients and wrapped in banana leaf.

Nothing to shout at Rendang Daging either.

Ayam Percik gonna be my favourite dished of the night. The chicken is tender, easy to chew and tasty of course. It is baked chicken marinated in chef's secret chili sauce. Trust me, the chili sauce is very addictive. Nasi Bokhari Ayam seasoned with fragrant spices and chicken (ayam percik). Well, this is a must have rice to complete the ramadan food chain! One of my favorite rice!

Although new dishes are the features for this Ramadan, the team at paya Serai will not overlook popular dishes that have kept people coming back for more every year with a wide selection of dishes to choose from appetisers, main course and wouth-watering desserts.

During the first week of Ramadhan, the promotion is priced at RM 109++ per guest and RM129++ for the subsequent weeks. Children below 12 years old get to enjoy the Ramadhan spread for half the price.
