TT Session with LYN members

Last friday, I am having a TT session with LYN Micro Four Third members at Sri Petaling, InHouse Cafe. Well, TT = Teh Tarik, LYN = Lowyat.net LOL.. The main reason I joining this TT was to get hands on on Olympus OM-D E-M5, Olympus 45mm f1.8, Olympus 12-50mm f3.5-6.3, Olympus FL600R and also Panasonic 7-14mm f4..Phewwww

* My E-P3 look like a small kid in front E-M5 *

Met up with total 3 of them who individually owned a Olympus EM5. Honestly, I love Olympus EM5 damn alot though I actually nv have chance to play with the actual unit. My first impression after playing with it was, SUPERB! With the battery grip, it was really awesome camera. The only thing i can't get use to it was the button behind..too small and cramp ;/

Manage to play with Olympus 12-50mm f3.5-6.3. Yeap, it is a kit lens for Olympus EM5. It is 24-100mm in 35mm equivalent and it has Macro ability. I am testing this lens because le gf interested on doing macro for her food photography. Here are the few sample.

Meanwhile, manage to play with Olympus 45mm f1.8 too. One of the prime lens that i believe alot Olympus m43 user love it. Too bad, i choose too ditch this and goes for 12mm. 45mm too tight for me ;/ but then lens is damn sharp even on wide open. Not to mention, the creamy bokeh! Drooolll

Finally, the most poisonous lens ever, Panasonic 7-14mm f4. Mother of Wide Angle lens for m43! It is really really damn wide and i like it soooo much! Distortion is unavoidable but hey! It still look awesome! It is 14mm in 35mm equivalent!!

After a TT session on that night, the lens that poison me most goes to Pana 7-14mm..OMG! Next time i know who to look for when i wanna borrow XD Overall, nice experience playing with dif lens. Might get myself an Olympus OM-D E-M5 by end of the year is budget allowed ;) Next, Pana 7-14mm!

Sony launch Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 in Ecoba, Malaysia

I just back from the launch of Sony latest high end compact camera, Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 - One of the compact camera i have been anticipating. Reason why I am quite excited of this compact is because of the size comparable with the Canon S100. Which makes it pocketable.

* Sony RX100 VS Canon S100 *

Another reason is the 1 inch sensor size, which is around 4 times larger than normal compact camera that have 1/2.3" sensor size. Of course, you have guesses it correctly that it share the same sensor in Nikon J1 and V1 mirrorless camera, which giving this camera 2.7x crop factor.

Here are the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 Key Features :

  • 20.2 megapixels.
  • CX format (13.2 x 8.8 mm) CMOS Sensor.
  • Bionz imaging processor.
  • ISO 100 - 25600.
  • Fixed Carl Zeiss® Sonnar T 28 – 100 mm F1.8 - F4.9 lens.
  • 3" Fixed WhiteMagic TFT LCD screen.
  • 1920 x 1080 (60, 24 fps) video.
  • Lithium-Ion NP-BX1 battery and approximately 330 shot.

I did a quick hands on video. Check it out!

I know I did missing some important point in the video. I forgot mention there is an electronic control ring near the lens like Canon S100. You can set yourself what command to assign to the ring and you gain quick access from it. Not to mention, RX100 features more picture effect modes to play with.

Alright, as usual everytime i get a camera, I always love to test on ISO for the noise and also the sharpness of the lens. Here are the pics from RX100 ranging from ISO 100-6400. Picture are unedited and I only resize it to 50% from original size.

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

For my eye, the detail still sharp on ISO 3200 despite noise are pretty visible. On ISO 6400 the detail started to smudge and smooth. Noise become more visible but overall, it is pretty usable as well. It seem the 20mp sensor wasn't disappointing at all. Dynamic range is good as well.

However the lens on telephoto is at f4.9 (100mm) is pretty disappointing. Not to mention, it is hard to focus in telephoto especially when lowlight. I wonder why cant they add fast telephoto zoom like Olympus XZ-1? But the f1.8 is awesome when wide open ;) Image still sharp!

More sample from Sony RX100. All pictures are unedited beside resize. Too bad, environment are full with lowlight and the RX100 still able to cop up with it. I am amazed! Didn't manage to use the built in flash because the unit i hands on cant trigger any flash.

* The famous Kenwooi *
* Eric the Cowman! Shoot with at 100mm f4.9 *
* Your truly *

* Bokeh is achievable in f1.8 *
* The model of the day *

The retail price for Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 is RM2,499 and will available in every Sony store on early August.

In my opinion, RM2,499 is pretty overpriced. There are more better choices with the price such as entry level DSLR - Nikon D3200, Canon 1100D or mirrorless camera such as Nikon J1, Olympus E-P3, Panasonic GX1 or Sony Nex F3 itself. Of course, some choices such as Canon S100, Panasonic Lumix LX-5 and Olympus XZ-1 can be obtain with almost 50% cheaper.

However, a pocketable compact that able to perform as good as Nikon 1 series and even surpass other brand high end compact camera, it is justifiable? For lady user, maybe this is perfect since most of my (or maybe all) lady friend hate bulky camera and love small compact. For a photographer and camera lover like me, I am always welcome this camera as my additional if, but not with this high price tag.

Anyway, worth it or not, you guys judge it :) Hopefully I could get a review unit from Sony so that I can explore more and get back to you all. Who know, it change my mind too ;P

Greedy Ghost (贪心鬼见鬼) Gala Screening

I was invited for Greedy Ghost (贪心鬼见鬼) Gala Screening last night together with meet and greet with the artist from movie.

Lim has always been unlucky. He is struggling to make ends meet until he chanced upon the 'Wordless Script' one day and won the lottery! As the winning was only marginal, it was soon exhausted when he spent it with Nam and Hui, his two poor roommates cum colleagues who excavate bones from old graves for a living. Unwilling to return to his poor days, Lim approaches the 'Wordless Script' for winning numbers again. This time, the Book-Spirit of the "Wordless Script" forewarns Lim that he will have to pay a heavy price, should he wants big winnings. Blinded by greed, Lim agrees to the terms and strikes a deal with the Book-Spirit. As Lim's life gets better and lavish, he also becomes increasingly dependent on the Book-Spirit, seeking its advice in everything. Soon, the Book-Spirit reveals the price which Lim has to pay for all his riches... and Lim will have to pay with his life! It is only with Lim's death, that he can be the next Book-Spirit, thus liberating the current Book-Spirit. Little does Lim expects: the richer he gets, the closer he is to his death. At the same time, the greedy gambler in Nam is playing with fire... To satisfy his gambling addiction, he resorted to stealing the accompanying valuables in the coffin during one of the excavations, despite strong objections from Hui. Following Nam's theft, strange things happened. A vengeful spirit haunts Nam and Hui repeatedly, causing them much distress... The trio of Lim, Nam and Hui can actually lead a decent and peaceful life, but made decisions at various stages of their lives to pursue riches and luxuries without knowing the heavy price they had to pay. Is there really no way for the trio to redeem themselves from this mess? Or is their death the ultimate solution?

I guess the summary pretty explain the whole movie LOL..Overall, the story is so-so, could be better with more suspense or comedy. In other word, i am indirectly saying the comedy and horror element is not enough. It is forgettable and not so inspiring.

Though the message was originally trying to tell everyone "If you greedy, you will have bad consequences" but in my own point of view, the movie is more likely like "If you get rich because of some unknown spirit or ghost help, you will get bad consequences" LOL..Well, at least this is why the movie called Greedy Ghost. It is because ghost helped you get rich in exchange your own life LOL

The very much plothole I notice was why Lim dowanna drive his cars after he purchased it? He still seem walking on the street together with his friends and girl friend. Production cant afford to rent the car for shooting?

Overall, the movie was so-so. Thus, it is safe to watch by everyone LOL..there is after credit scene, so just stay back to watch...which i dun think it is important anyway :P
