Ricoh Pentax Malaysia officially launch K-3

Ricoh Pentax Malaysia officially launch the K-3, a 24mp DSLR for enthusiastic photographer at the Bridge Bar, G-Tower. Honest speaking, I been admiring Pentax for quite long. They have alot fantastic camera that seem always out of the box in terms of design and features. The K-3, replacement for K-5 II/K-5 IIs is no exception since it features the world first anti-aliasing (AA) simulator function. To make it simple, user can turn on and off AA filter through the camera setting.

The event started with welcome speech by Ms Rissa Chan, Sales Director of DSC World and followed up by product presentation by Ricoh Principle - Mr Takashi Arai (Product Manager) & Mr Ryota Shimamoto (Sales Manager).

We are given chance to hands on the camera as well as slot in our own memory card to shot.

Here are the key specification for Ricoh Pentax K-3 :

  • 24 megapixels
  • APS-C (23.5 x 15.6 mm) CMOS Sensor
  • Prime III Imaging Processing
  • ISO 100 - 51200
  • 27 Number of focus points
  • 3.2" fixed LCD with 1,037,000 Screen dots
  • 1920 x 1080 (60i, 50i, 30p, 25p, 24p) video recording
  • Weather and dust resistant

It is a very capable camera despite only APS-C sensor, pair together with the Prime III image processing. Not to mentioned the body are rugged because it is weather sealed, dust proof and also cold resistant. The moment I hold the camera I already knew it is solid on my hand. Thumb up for the built quality! The K-3 gains a 27-point autofocus system and a more advanced 86,000 pixel metering sensor, compared with the K-5 II. It also offers twin SD card slots and USB 3.0 connection.

According to Pentax, the K-3 also features a dependable, durable shutter unit that can handle some 200,000 shutter releases. It also has high speed continuous shooting with a maximum speed of approximately 8.3 images per second. The K-3 able to continuosly records as many as 22 images in the RAW format or 60 images in the JPEG format in a single sequences.

Here are photos taken by K-3 SOOC in JPEG. Not much interesting subject for me to shoot honestly :/

* ISO 3200 *
* ISO 6400 *
* ISO 12800 *

Honestly I love everything offer by the K-3 body. 24MP sensor, no AA filter, rugged and weather sealed body and the maximum 1/8000s shutter speed where most of this features can be only found in high end DSLR or Full Frame. Feel nostalgic to be able to hold and use back DSLR after so long :P Hopefully I can request an unit from Pentax for review.

The Ricoh Pentax K-3 will be available on sales starting next week onwards.
