Blackberry Q5 officially launch in Malaysia with RM 1,299

Blackberry Q5 finally officially announced in Malaysia. Being entry level in the latest Blackberry 10 series, Q5 still packed with impressive spec and also same user experience with other siblings.

Blackberry Q5 Key Specification :

  • 3.1" IPS LCD with 720 x 720 pixels
  • 1.2 GHz Dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor
  • 2GB RAM
  • 8GB internal memory with expandable microSD
  • 5MP back facing camera with 1080p@30fps video recording
  • 2MP front facing camera with 720p video recording
  • NFC
  • LTE
  • Non-removable Li-Ion 2180 mAh battery
  • 120 x 66 x 10.8 mm
  • Blackberry OS 10.1

The event started with offical greeting from both emcee and followed by Mr Annamalai Muthu, Managing Director Malaysia, Blackberry.

According to Mr Annamalai, Blackberry currently focusing on user experience as their main selling point. In other words, regardless which version of Blackberry 10 you purchase, the user experience is definitely same. Though the spec wasn't as high as current competitor in market, however I gotta admit Blackberry had done a good job in optimising both software and hardware. It doesn't matter eventhough it is dual core, you will still get great user experience.

Here my quick video of first hands on on Blackberry Q5.

As a ex user of Blackberry Bold 2, 9700. The new Blackberry OS 10 definitely bringing new level of experiences. The OS itself is fully and heavy dependant touch gesture to operate. However I still believe it just the matter of learning ot get used to it only. You can easily navigate and use the OS 10 once you fully understand the way it operate. Really thumb up to Blackberry for the good job.

Overall, I felt it is cheap, affordable and good buy device for those who wanna start experiencing Blackberry 10 OS. With only RM 1,299 retail priced, you can get this NFC and LTE enable device on your palm. Not to mention the best of both world, touch screen and Keyboard. The only thing I dislike is the cheap plastic built body and also very light to hold. Alright don't get me wrong. Eventhough it is plastic, it is definitely durable. The next thing I wish to see an improvement from Blackberry is the camera.

Blackberry Q5 will available immediately on 15th July from all retail store and also Telcos with retail priced RM 1,299 and come with three color - Black, white and red.

P/s I won a Blackberry Q5 in the event itself during lucky draw! Weeeeeeeee

Maxis Blackberry Playbook Workshop

I was invited to Maxis Blackberry Playbook Workshop at KL Convention Center back to few weeks ago. It was an awesome and fun experience with Maxis..not to mention with the Playbook that i been eye-ing for very long time!

During the whole workshop, Eric, from Brighstar take the role to tutor us from A-Z about Blackberry Playbook.

 * Eric from Brightstar *

* Daphne and Tianchad exploring the Playbook *

Later, an apps developer from Maxis showcase some of fun apps provided by Maxis that pre-install into Playbook such as Finder301, Maxis wifi Hotspot and etc.

* Cool apps pre-install by Maxis *

Game session was on after this. Everyone get a chance to compete with each other in Need For Speed : Undercover and Tetris game! Winner for both game won themselves a Jabra Bluetooth headset that worth RM200.

 * Need for Speed : Undercover! *

* All the racer racing with each other! *

So, you guys wanna know more on Playbook isn't? And why Playbook compare to other tablet like iPad or Honeycomb Tablet??

* Adapted from GSMarena.com *

Here are some key features of Playbook :

- True Multitasking : Oh yes i love this! I tried to open 20+ apps and it still running smooth. Not to mention, the apps still running simultaneously!

- QNX OS Technology : built to take advantages of multicore processing

- Native Adobe Flash Support : Unlike iPad who cant run Adobe Flash, Playbook able to do that!

- Portability and Power : Need me to explain? this tablet just 7" size! A perfect mate for me to bring travel to everywhere ;)

Blackberry Playbook was first tablet launch by Blackberry that packed with 1GHz dual core processor. In addition, it powered by QNX platform as OS. If you guys dunno, QNX platform was famous for the reliability and stable to use.

Besides, it has 5mp camera on the back and 3mp on front. User are given choices to choose 720p or 1080p for video recording! Isn't it awesome!? In addition, one of the main thing that attract me most would be the UI (User Interface) of Playbook.

It was customize till the level i like it especially, when the Playbook itself come with buttonless. All action are done by 1 finger, as they said "A finger to dominate a Playbook" LOLL

During the workshop, i tested to connect Playbook with my Blackberry devices using Blackberry Bridge and it work like charm! I get a bigger screen to BBM, email and even calender to jot down my daily appointment and etc.

If u guys dunno, Maxis is now offering a very affordable plan for Playbook with the lowest price RM990! WOW! with RM990 and u can have the "A finger to dominate a world Playbook"!

* For existing maxis BIS user *

* for non-existing maxis BIS user *

If u ask me what i like about playbook, here are the features i like :

- Portability! 7" still the best to bring around compare to my iPad. Not to mention it kinda light and thin!

- User Interface! When facing a phone or tablet, UI is very important to me in order i wun get bored easily LOL..Playbook UI was customize till perfectly and all command are done by 1 finger!

- Multitask! I am a multitasker! I love to do alot work in a same time etc play game, listen music or even surf web in the same time!

- Video Recording! The ability to record 1080p! I wan! To be honest i nv had a device tat can record 1080p HD :(

- Adobe Flash supported! This is important to me especially when i am surfing some flash site..or flash game maybe? :P

- Bigger Screen! When i said bigger screen i mean i can has bigger screen to BBM via Blackberry Bridge with my love 1 :P

- Android apps supported! If u guys dunno, QNX was a linux programming too and near future, or maybe coming soon all android apps will be able to port into Playbook! Awesomeeeeee! :D

For those who dunno, i am a iPad 2 and Galaxy Tab user. I possessed both iOS and Android devices. So why i need Playbook to replace both? Here are the reason!

- Multitasking! I have to admit the multitask was far better than Android OS! iOS? i dun need to mention this isn't? :P

- Adobe Flash supported! Eventhough Android support Adobe Flash too, however the experience with Playbook is much smoother and stable compare to Android. iOS? totally out.

- Portability! 7" still win my heart! Though my Galaxy Tab was 7" too, however Playbook was lighter and thinner! Once again, my iPad 2 is totally out..though it was thinner XP

- Android Apps supported! Well, if Playbook can run android apps, why do i still need Galaxy Tab? true? no? :P

- Dual core Processor! 1Ghz dual core Processor easily pawned my both tablet. FYI, my Galaxy Tab was running single core 1Ghz processor and iPad 2 was 900Mhz Dual Core Processor.

Thats all my POV of Blackberry Playbook. It was an awesome companion regardless work or leisure. I would love to own one and replace my Galaxy Tab if i could! :)

* Not only able to dominate the Playbook with a finger, with one palm also can! :P *

Finally, thanks again to Maxis and Nuffnang for the awesome workshop! I hope there will be more this kind of workshop as u all know, i am geek on phones and cameras! ;)

Stuff That Put a Smile on my Face this Morning

Uh i woke up late this morning. I duno why but it have been time since i can sleep tat long. Usually it only happen if i am drunk or high alcohol on d previous night. Feel like some CNY hangover now after some mini open house session in my house last nite with friends..

Anyway today i am suppose to go Digi Center before head to Xiang birthday party to settle some bill and plan change for my Blackberry. For your information, i am using PC Fair promo plan on last year August.

The plan was RM28/month for the first 6 months only and after that it'll revert back to Digi Smart Plan RM68 UNLIMITED. but to be honest do i need UNLIMITED that cost RM68? answer is nop for me. I only use my BB for twitter, email and BBM. Dun even surf web on it coz load slow like hell and small screen. Thus i decided go Smart Plan Lite, RM33 + RM10 for BIS once Digi announced that plan back to last 2 months. That plan had 300mb limit. Sweet enuf for me since i dun even exceed 10mb per day in my BB (mind u i got data alerter apps).

ok enuf of my craps, so basically i plan to go Digi Center to change my plan but since i woke up late, i abit lazy to do so. Thus i tried to call Digi helpline to change my plan but failed to connect to them, one of d reason why i alwiz hate called customer services. Suddenly it remind me of D'Chat system in Digi Web! *jeng jeng jeng*

It is in Digi Online Customer Servive (OCS) web page. Once u login ur accound u'll see D'chat option on ur left bar. U get to choose ur category and hit begin after that. A chat box will pop out like MSN.

Dun worry, they are not computer operator tat chat wif u, it is real Digi Staff :) here is my conversation with he/her LOL (in fact got 2 felor serve me n i dun even know who m i talking wif XP)

Well, isn't tat put a big smile on my face this morning when i dun even need waste my time n money to go all d way Digi center to do my procedure :)

Another reason to love and why i love Digi! U guys rocks ;)

I have a confession....

I have a confession...I LOVE Digi Blackberry Curve 8520!! Digi is really awesome yo! Their awesomeness cause me ditched away Maxis 2 years ago. I believe Digi alwiz come out the most affordable package to every consumer. I guess that's one of the reason why kids nowday so rich to own an iphone XP..

After doing few blog post regarding Digi Blackberry Curve 8520 (to refresh ur brain click here, here, here,here and here), i hope i could help solved the problem for those who in confusion about BB best package or BB function.

From my previous post regarding DG Blackberry Smart Plan, Digi offered the cheapest package and affordable to everyone. The data plan just as low as RM58/month and Zero Commitment on call plan! Where you gonna find this package from other Telco? NO WAY MAN!

If you dun believe, check the post i made about the comparison Telco that deal with Blackberry Curve 8520 in Malaysia. I guarantee you WOW when u look on package offered by Digi and the internet connection speed!!

Throughout the one month experience with my BB, i fell in love with the apps and function. One of the most famous apps is Blackberry Messenger! This apps cause me lz move to computer and msn instead laid on bed and do it with my BB..not to mention ubertwitter that allow me to tweet where i am without needing a huge desktop or laptop! Check out here for more awesome apps offered by BB :D

With all this reason i stated above, i cant find a reason why i hate my Blackberry. Unlike other Telco in Malaysia, the Telco (Digi) i currently using is offered alot benefits for consumer. Which make us Happy-Happy like Mc Donald logo yo!

For those who really wanted to get Blackberry, no need to hesitate! Digi is the best choice for you! As the slogan, DIGI ALWAYS THE SMARTEST CHOICE! So, be a smart consumer and go for Digi :D

* DIGI BLACKBERRY CURVE 8520! I'VE FOUND MY STYLE & MY CURVE. HAVE YOU? *

BlackBery Curve 8520 : Which Telco is worth your money!?

Well, recently alot friend of mine wanted to get BlackBerry as in now BB had became a very influential device especially among businessman and facebook/twitter freak like me. To be honest i kinda like this device since it is small, pocketable and convenience to bring to everywhere.

Alright, i gonna focus mainly on Blackberry Curve 8520 price(RRP) offer by Telco, Data Plan and speed of each Telco. Lets start with the price and data plan offer by each Telco :)

Basically, if you buy BB 8520 from Telco, u r required to involve in 12 or 24 months commitment on their data plan and call plan.

For Celcom, u can get BB 8520 with RM788 + RM50 call plan for 12 months or RM588 + RM250 call plan for 12 months. For your information, Celcom offer 3 types of data plan which are Basic Plan (RM38), Blackberry® Advance (2.5G) (RM68) and Blackberry® Advance (3G) (RM98). All are monthly basis obviously XP. So the Basic Plan is the cheapest but the data usage up to 5 MB (additional data charged PPU at RM0.10/10kb). Well, is perfect for those who dun surf net often. But then what's d point u get BB if u dun use d internet often? rite? :P..so cut the craps and assuming u r internet freak and need internet 24 hours or u'll bang ur head to d wall. Since BB 8520 running on EDGE connection, so no point getting Blackberry® Advance (3G) plan. U pray pray until die also wun get 3G connection on BB 8520 XP..so the best plan for unlimited internet usage are Blackberry® Advance (2.5G) *FYI, 2.5G = EDGE*. Well assuming u r student, d best combination package u'll get from Celcom is RM50 (call plan) + RM68 (Data plan) = RM118/months or if u r businessman and call more than u eat rice, then go ahead get RM250 call plan (data plan are free!).

Next is Digi. My word might be abit unfair for other Telco but Digi has really done a great job for consumer. Their plan is affordable even for a poor student like me :). Digi has designed a special plan for BB user only which known as DG Smart Plan for BlackBerry. You can get BB 8520 with RM899 for 12 months plan commitment or RM549 for 24 months. Eh? What about the call plan? If you refer to my past post, i mentioned before that there will b zero commitment! I repeat! ZERO COMMITMENT for call and SMS. In other words, what you call and sms is what u gonna pay for. The rate is very cheap and reasonable :). Pls refer to this post to figure out. The best part is, Digi offered the one and only data plan for BB user which is RM58 Unlimited! Only RM58 u can surf web wherever you like for 24 hours! So the monthly payment gonna be fair and square to all category regardless u r business, student, Prime Minister or whoever u r which is RM58 + (Pay for what you use to call and sms). It is perfect if u dun call and sms much. But dun worry! If you are businessman and call/sms alot, Digi got special promotion for that! When end of d month ur bill come and ur total are RM200 and above, no worry and be happy! You no need to pay ur Data Plan for that month! So you just need to pay ur call/sms fees only :)..cool? Well, if ur total bill are in between RM100 - RM199.99, u'll have 25% off for your data plan. Which is 75/100 X Rm58 = RM43.50..Make it into simple math, it gonna be RM43.50 + ur call/sms usage. Cool rite? :D

Finally, Maxis Blackberry plan! There are 4 category for Maxis BlackBerry plan which u can get BB 8520 with RM799 + RM80 (call plan) for 24 months or RM899 + RM80 (call plan) for 12 months and for those who wan higher call plan, RM488 + RM150 (call plan) for 24 months or RM799 + RM150 (call plan) for 12 months. Maxis offer 3 types of data plan which are Entry (RM40), Standard (RM55) and Unlimited (RM120). Fuahh! I gotta say their data plan for unlimited is very expensive. I rather spend my time in home for streamyx >,<...Obviously my chart above already shown how much u gonna pay monthly if u use Unlimited Data plan. RM80 + RM120 = RM200 and RM150 + RM120 = RM270. I gotta say is more expensive than Celcom..or Mayb Digi if u r not call/sms freak XD..

After comparing the price, i believe some of you might think "aiya, Digi sucks la! the line sure slow like the duck 1", "Woohoo Maxis internet speed is reliable eventhough is expensive" or "Celcom is main seller for BB wor, sure good 1 la d internet speed". Well, lets compare the internet speed between this 3 telco.

* Adapted from Digi. If too small click here to view *

Digi RM58 Unlimited average speed is 700kb/s with 3GB quota only. Well no worry, is UNLIMITED PEEP! U wun have extra charge eventhough u hit and over the quota. Just that the average speed will drop (to 128kb/s i think..correct me if i m wrong). Meanwhile, Celcom RM68 Unlimited average speed is 384kb/s with 5GB quota (speed will drop also after hit d quota). For Maxis the RM120 Unlimited is 3.8mb/s speed (Not shown in chart..).

Lets summarize all the package offer by this 3 Telco. You have to pay for Celcom monthly RM118 or RM250, RM58 + RM(usage for call/SMS) for Digi and RM200 or RM270 for Maxis. So the cheapest most likely going to be Digi. Or mayb Celcom if you r heavy user for call/sms especially businessman. But still, with Digi Zero Commitment call, you only need to pay 15/min. To reach RM250 usage of call (assuming ur bill is RM308 and u got RM58 discount for ur data plan, thus ur bill only RM250), u need make approximately 28 hours call to reach RM250 call usage. So, calculate urself did ya make that much call? For maxis, forget about it if u r student, get Digi plan for yaself :P..

However in term of internet speed, RM120 Maxis plan overpowered with 3.8mb/s. WOW! But hey pls remember, BB 8520 only support EDGE (2.5G). In addition, it only support HTML 2.0 (correct me if i m wrong) where the web browser kenot support full web version like our computer. Not to mention it doesnt support flash. Thus the web most likely is mobile web which only size not more than 1mb. So why bother get high speed by paying more? I rather get RM58 from Digi comparing with Celcom RM68. Digi is cheaper than Celcom RM10 and the speed is faster than Celcom. Cool? :D

As conclusion, i would said Digi got the best and cheap plan for every profession while Celcom is more toward to businessman profession. Maxis? uhhh...for rich kid only i assume..XD

I hope my comparison could help u decide what plan and telco u gonna get for BlackBerry. Currently i am using Digi BlackBerry Unlimited Plan and i very satisfy with it. I gotta use it everywhere i am. Not to mention i can lean on my bed while watching youtube..ahh Heaven! hahahaha

DIGI always the smartest choice!

Digi Roadshow at Mid Valley

* Digi Blackberry *

In conjunction of new model launch by Digi, BlackBerry Bold 2, 9700, Digi was having a roadshow from 3-7 March 2010. Well i am going there with Yvonne coz she is getting her very first BB hands on!

* Alot ppl yo *

Since it was roadshow, of coz alot crazy deal around! BB Bold 2 only as low as RM1299 with 24 months data plan registration. But still it worth the penny in ur pocket if u r not those ppl who change phone often ;P.

* BB Bold 2 *

Meanwhile, BB Curve 8520 was as low as RM549 with 24 months data plan and RM899 with 12 months data plan. Well isn't it cheap? Yvonne dun have money, or else she might bump to Bold 2 XP. So yea, she is getting Curve 8520, d model i currently using for almost a month :D

* BB Curve 8520 *

Well, so far i m not bored with my BB yet. I never let it go from my palm even a single day especially when i am outside where i do check my mail, facebook & twitter often. A little small device do really make my life more convenience.

Though Digi is promoting Bold 2 and everyone went crazy about it, however for me 8520 function is more than enough for me. Why? Is actually depend what ur requirement on d phone and not what d phone wan for u. Bold 2 considered as high end model, thus obviously is better 8520. I would like to make rough comparison in between Bold 2 and Curve so that you can decide which model you should go on.

* The size are exactly the same. But Bold2 is heavier *

Literally, Bold 2 support 3G while Curve support EDGE connection only. That doesnt matter for some people eventhough using EDGE if they only surf light web, use apps such as facebook & email. Unless u surf heavy web such as blog, u need 3g connection of coz :). In addition for those who love to take pic, bold 2 is perfect for u coz it built with 3.2mp cam with built in LED flash (and built in Image Stabilization) while curve just only 2mp camera, without flash. In addition, Bold 2 support GPS (support navigation if i not mistaken) while Curve just support map that can search for location, not direction. In term of price, obviously BB curve are cheaper =P..Other than that, the phone are mostly similar. For further comparison, click here to check it out :)

Too be honest, i believe now there are 3 main BB model that grab everyone attention eyes which are 8520, 9550 & 9700. All this 3 model been sell respectively by 3 main telco in malaysia which are Digi, Maxis & Celcom (the mail dealer). However which telco is d best? which reli worth ur penny? I'll cover this in next post :P
