Goku Raku Ramen review @ Mid Valley Megamall

Ok this has been a serious delayed post. Apologize! Life still as shitty as usual for me. But hey, thanks God for the good foods around, I am back with hope *queue dramatic song* LOL.. Anyway, went for Goku Raku Ramen review last few weeks and for the first time I am being camera-less. Not bringing any gear with me due to some circumstances and I knew I shouldn't be heading home to grab my gears with the jam condition. Hence, I just went for the review with my one and trustworthy Sony Xperia Z1 as my main shooter.

So yea Goku Raku Ramen. Been knowing about this shop since the existence of Paradigm Mall but I have yet go to try. I am abit choosy when come to ramen eventhough I am not a huge fans of it because I have to make sure it is really worth a visit for me to pay and eat. But I guess my perspective changed after I tried Goku Raku Ramen. It is located at North Court, Mid Valley Megamall.

* Shanghai Fried Ramen RM13.90 *

The first thing came to our table is the Shanghai Fried Ramen. Yea, ramen with fried. It look kinda like hot plate yee mee to me. Personally I found nothing much to shout on this ramen. The plate is full with veggie and the portion of minced meat was too little for my likey. I admit I am a omnomnomnomvour. Oh be sure to toss the noodle around so that you get evenly sauce on it.

* Ebi Gyoza RM10.90 *

Gyoza! My favourite Japanese food! As much as I love how it taste, the prawn is too small in the dumpling.

DSC_1314
* GRR Meatballs RM5 (5 pcs) / RM 9 (10 pcs) / RM17 (20 pcs) *

For the first time I was introduces by japanese meatball. It came with sweet and sour sauce. I took a first bite on it and I felt mix feeling on it. The skin itself is crunchy however the meat inside are soft, not compact enough. Too soft for my liking. But I guess it make it easy to chew and suitable to eat for everyone on difference age range, I guess again.

* 5 Star Aburi Char Siew Ramen RM25.90 regular *

Finally the star of the night. A good ramen has been always come with great pork broth soup and also thick and awesome char siu! Beside Ippudo, Goku Raku char siu is one of the best I ever had. The soup is not too salty as well and the flavour are well done. This what made my perspective of Goku Raku Ramen change. I'll be back again for the same ramen!

Lastly, we are served with Chef’s Specialty Course Meal; Set C which cost RM119.90 which come with 13 items:

  • 1. Edamame
  • 2. Aburi Char Siew
  • 3. Chef Recommended Salad
  • 4. Pork Loin Rei Shabu
  • 5. Tori Momo Karaage
  • 6. Crispy Shrimp Mayo
  • 7. Siew Mai
  • 8. Ebi Chili
  • 9. Sweet & Sour Pork
  • 10. Utsonomiya Sui Gyoza
  • 11. Garlic Fried Rice/Mini Ramen
  • 12. Annin Tofu Dessert
  • 13. Sesame Balls

The set are good to go with three to four person and it is totally worth it. The set has little fusion with chinese style but overall, it is very satisfactory.

So it is the end of my review. Thanks for those who read this post and as a token of appreciation for being my readers all this years, I am giving away a discount voucher for GRR Mealballs! Just print this out (not sure is black & white acceptable) and present it before making payment. Remember it is valid till 30th June 2014.

Manmaru Homemade Udon @ Mid Valley Review

PB260123

Courtesy to Ah Bok, I am invited to Manmaru Homemade Udon restaurant last night at Mid Valley. It is easily to spot since it located in between Machine and Samsung store. Now, if you're craving for some cheap and satisfying Udon, I highly recommended Manmaru. The served fresh & authentic udon and the restaurant itself running self service concept. Total 10 types of udon for selection and also six side dishes ranging from RM8.90 - RM15.90 for udon.

PB260138

We came in a large group and glad we manage to try out all the Udons in the menu :D

PB260160
* Kimchi Udon RM11.90 (S) / RM13.90 (L) *

Kimchi Udon is korean style spicy noodle soup. I am not a huge fans of kimchi but I gotta give credit to Manmaru for making excellence kimchi soup on this noodle. The soup is creamy enough and it wasn't exactly spicy too.

PB260161
* Curry Udon RM10.90 (S) / RM12.90 (L) *

One of my favouriye gonna be Curry Udon. I love traditional Japanese curry because it wasn't spicy in the same time heavy tasty flavours. The curry in Manmaru is just nice, not too thick not too watery. Thumb up!

PB260162
* Cream Corn Udon RM12.90 (S) / RM14.90 (L) *

Cream Corn Udon sauce just like creamy pasta sauce. It is creamy and not too watery too. Nothing much to shout.

PB260164
* Niku Udon RM12.90 (S) / RM14.90 (L) *

Niku Udon is a hot udon soup with then sliced beef and spinach. The beef meat is tender and fresh! A must order for beef lover.

PB260166
* Kake Udon RM8.90 (S) / RM10.90 (L) *

Kake Udon is the classic soy udon serving where you can see in most Japanese restaurant. It just taste alright and nothing much to shout.

PB260168
* Kamaage Udon RM12.90 *

My first time seeing Kamaage Udon. It is an udon that you have to eat by dipping it (not pouring the sauce!) inside the sauce known as Kamaage. It is one of the traditional udon eating style in Japan.

PB260171
* Ume Udon RM10.90 (S) / RM12.90 (L) *

Ume Udon is a refreshing udon served with pickled plum. It is sour based soup so maybe girl will like it? :P

PB260172
* Bukake Udon RM9.90 (S) / RM11.90 (L) *

Dont think dirty, Bukake Udon is a cold udon with thick fish broth. As much as I hate easting soup based noodle, I don't think I like my noodle served in cold too :/ but hey don't get me wrong, the taste is good but still weird eating noodle that cold.

PB260174
* Zaru Udon RM8.90 (S) / RM10.90 (L) *

Zaru Udon also a cold udon that topped with shredded nori (edible seaweed) and served on a zaru, a sieve-like bamboo tray. No idea what's the sauce is but according to google it is strong mixture of dashi, mirin, and shoyu.

PB260175
* Kamo Seiro Udon RM13.90 (S) / RM15.90 (L) *

Kamo Seiro Udon is a cold soba noodles with hot duck gravy. Duck lover should really try this udon!

Managed to have some side orders too courtesy of the Manmaru CEO. Nothing much to shout, everything is taste good and just nice.

PB260145

PB260152

Overall, good experience dining in Manmaru. The interior lighting is bright enough (I am sick of dim lighting restaurant) and the service is fast.

Brotzeit Bier Bar & Restaurant Food Review @ Mid Valley

* My awesome pork gang *

When it is come to pork, I guess I can't say no. You'll always see me with wide open smile and say "YES! YES" to you. So if any of you have awesome pork, bkt or char siu, feel free to ask me! :D Ok abit out of topic but this time around the pork is from Brotzeit Bier Bar! Courtesy to Nuffnang, I get to join the food review. I has been always wanted to try Brozeit. Note that few days before the food review, I actually went to Brotzeit for the first time with the Pork Gang. Hence, this is not my first experience.

* From left :  Radler, Bayrischer Longdrink, Churchill, Affensaft, Russ'n and Schwarzer *

Well it is German Bar afterall. Hence no surprise with the beers we get! Radler is a mixture of Original Munich Lager with Sprite and it's a popular sports drink. Bayrischer Longdrink is a mixture of Vodka, lime juice, and Original Münchner Urtyp while Churchill is a mixture of Compari with Original Münchner Urtyp. My personal favourite is Affensaft, a mixture between Weissbier with banana or mango juice. It is sweet! Not to forget Russ'n is made by Weissbier with Sprite and Schwarzer by Weissbier with Coke.

* Brotzeitflade Speck/ Bacon Pizza RM32 *

We started of our review with Brotzeitflade Speck/ Bacon Pizza. I have to say the pizza is pretty crispy and chewy! It comes with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, bacon, onions, vine ripened tomatoes and chili. Not to mentioned it also came with Cili Padi that most of us got it without realizing it.

* Salad mit Schafskase/ Feta Salad RM38 (regular) / RM23 (small) *

Salad mit Schafskase/ Feta Salad is a mixed salad with feta cheese, red bell peppers, semi-dried tomatoes, onions, olives, garlic croutons and sour cream tossed with house dressing. The portion is good enough for sharing and probably a huge fans of salad could finish it alone. The cheese seriously very salty if you did not blend it properly in the first place. Other than that, it is very well balances and not disappointing!

* Huge pork knuckle! *
* Chef Helmut helping us cut the pork knuckle *

Here come our main character of the day! It is very similar with the Pork Platters in the menu but not exactly same. Yes it is something created for Octoberfest known as Octoberfest Platter. It is suitable for 5-6 people and will be available from 21st September to 31st October 2013.

* Octoberfest Platter RM258 *

The platter included Pork Garlic Sausage, Pork Chop, Pork Belly, Roasted Chicken & Pork Knuckle. Personally, it was alright overall and nothing wow. The pork knuckle and pork chop too dry for my liking. If it could moist abit it would be perfect. The pork belly and the sausage is my most favourite.

Next is dessert time! A wise man said always has a space in your stomach for dessert.

* Profiterole Duet RM20 *

Profiterole Duet come with Chocolate profiterole with vanilla ice cream and cinnamon sugar apple fritter on vanila sauce. Soft and puffy profiterole mix with vanilla ice-cream is perfect combi ever.

* Bavarian Orange Trifle RM18 *

This dessert has refreshing layers of triple sec of rum and orange infused sponge fingers and fresh cream. Of course the best way to eat Bavarian Orange Trifle is use your spoon and scope it until the bottom and eat it instead of layer by layer. Rum FTW!

* Kaiserschmarren, Emperor’s Cake RM20 *

This is shredded pancake with rum and raisin served with plum sauce. It is soft and moist as well as goes well with the plum sauce. Really nice one!

* Sweet & Savoury Duo RM25 *

Well I really never expect it has bacon chocolate in this dessert! The white color thingy is not ice-cream either but white chocolate mousse and the strawberries marinated with lemon and then doused with apricot sauce. It is truly heavenly dessert I ever had.

Overall it is very pleasant dining experience in Brotzeit and friendly service by the waiters there.

Brotzeit will be hosting Oktoberfest at their two outlets (Mid Valley & Sunway Pyramid) and the dates have been scheduled for 2nd, 3rd and 4th October 2013 at Mid Valley and on 10th October 2013 at Sunway Pyramid. Reservations are encouraged as seating is limited to 200 covers per evening and advance purchase of Entrance Tickets are recommended at RM50nett per person which includes a pint of Oktoberfest bier and a chance to win a range of attractive lucky draw prizes from dining vouchers to air tickets.

For reservation, call 03-22875516 or 03-56385516.

Kick Ass 2 Premier Screening

Courtesy of Nuffnang, I get to watch Kick Ass 2 Premier Screening before it release from cinema.

Kick-Ass, Hit Girl and Red Mist return for the follow-up to 2010’s irreverent global hit: Kick-Ass 2. After Kick-Ass’ (Aaron Taylor- Johnson) insane bravery inspires a new wave of self-made masked crusaders, led by the badass Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey), our hero joins them on patrol. When these amateur superheroes are hunted down by Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse)—reborn as The Mother Fuckerr—only the blade-wielding Hit Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) can prevent their annihilation.

Somehow I felt the sequel is lack of some kick ass-ing mojo compare with the first movie. However, it is still enjoyable with all the bloody fake CGI, gore enough as well and decent action fight. Storyline is simple, solid and predictable as usual.

Disappointed with Jim Carrey for not being major character and doesn't show much of his fun side. Surprisingly my partner of the movie, Zhao doesn't know that's Jim Carrey. Guess he is ageing much and the sound doesnt like him too. The gathering of a bunch of super hero wannabe and also super villain wannabe is pretty cool. Avenger Assamble anyone? :P

I have not much to complain the movie. It is decent enough and fun to watch. Just feeling meh on the censorship in this movie. Mother Russia FTW!

Elysium Premier Screening

Courtesy to Nuffnang, I get to watch Elysium Premier Screening before it release in cinema today.

In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) will stop at nothing to preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium – but that doesn't stop the people of Earth from trying to get in by any means they can. Max (Matt Damon) agrees to take on a life-threatening mission, one that could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

The reason I watch this movie is because I put too high expectation to the director. Well, the higher u expect, the more disappointment u get isn't? There are too much flaws in this movie however I only gonna praise the storyline. It is solid. But not the best. The story started really slow, slow and go on really slow until the climax.

The protagonist wasn't exactly like all hero from others movie. He is selfish, he just don't want to die and willing to do whatever he need to get to Elysium to cure his radiation. The suits that he wore was pretty useless. It suppose to provide him super power that easily kick Droids ass which shown at the beginning, but middle of the movie show he easily get pawned by Krugger underling when the plane crash.

Though Elysium seem nice, high tech but the main focus seem like the machine that can-cure-whatever-shitbrix-happened-on-your-body. That's include your exploded face. So, Elysium invested too much on such machine but never bother to invest on security that stop illegal immigrant? Oh they have Droids but practically never use them to defend the base. Not to mentioned the whole Elysium system easily get stolen from someone brain without any difficulty.

Too many similar kind of movie this year (Oblivion, After Earth and etc) and this make Elysium not so special. I still enjoy District 9 more.
