Olympus 7-14mm f2.8 @ Petaling Street

If I only limit myself bringing 2 lenses to travel or everywhere I want, an Ultra Wide Angle lens is on the list for sure. Another one probably 45mm f1.8 will be cool. Yes I used to have an Ultra Wide Anle lens, Panasonic 7-14mm f4. But I sold it not long after my Hong Kong trip due to unable to meet my expectation. Don't get me wrong, the lens is excellent and I love it so much! It just failed me on low light with the 90% rate on unable to focus. Well, those day when I still using Olympus E-P3.

Helios 58mm F2 test drive with Olympus OM-D E-M1

Long long time ago before I got my Olympus OM-D E-M1 and Olympus 45mm f1.8, I bought the Helios 58mm f2, a manual lens from analogue camera. It was a pretty amazing lens, sharp on image on wide open F2. Unfotunately I have started to abandon it since I got myself 45mm. Hey it can auto focus so fast that make me think why should I use manual focus?

Photowalk with Olympus Malaysia @ Petaling Street

Last weekend I have a little morning exercise together with Olympus Malaysia which is known as Photowalk at around Petaling Street area. It was my first time joined shooting with Olympus (well don't count those usual street shooting with Robin, it is not official!). I think it was a great Photowalk session where we can share knowledge, inspired each other and most important, we are enjoying what we are doing and also the camera we holding.

I invited Tian Chad along to joined the photowalk by lending him my Olympus OM-D E-M1. Then I managed to ask Robin lend him the Olympus 75mm f1.8 lens. There we go, I planted the poison and waiting it slowly spread into Tian Chad body.. Muahahahah *evil laugh* Thus, I used my old but still capable in delivering superb images, Olympus E-P3.

So yea we started our walk from Central Market to a Chinese Temple called Guan Di. Been there for few times with Robin and that day I only know the temple name LOL

Then we proceed to the Indian temple nearby which I dunno what's the name. Sorry I know I failed

Next we continue walk towards to Petaling Street itself before ended our Photowalk session. My camera died half way though.. Piff too long never used my E-P3 and forgot to charge the battery.

Overall great photowalk session with the gang! It is great to know few Olympus users who really enjoy and passion on their hobby. Hope able to join Olympus next event soon!

Being Selective

It was Sunday morning yesterday where I managed to join Robin, Carmen and Tom who came all the way from US for some shutter therapy session at Petaling Street. Oh God it was such a burden to woke up early and riding the demotivated LRT. We managed to meet up on time and had a breakfast in one of the famous porridge and Chu Cheong Fan in Petaling Street. Forgot the name of the shop though. Was it call Hong Kee?

Chinese New Year decoration can be seen everywhere in Petaling Street. Not to mentioned they blast the music loudly along the street. One can never deny CNY is coming near. Is time to loose some weight and also gain it back during the celebration LOL.. Anyway we drop by at Chinese and Indian temple nearby after breakfast.

I am telling myself not to shoot too much everytime when I head to street. I am choosing being selective. Selective on my subjects, selective on the moments, selective on my shots and so on. This is just to force myself being more aware on my composition and think out of the box. Turn out I shots 52 photos only yesterday. But mehhhh.. I am not sure am I doing the right things.

Honestly I am fond to my Olympus 45mm f1.8 more and more nowdays. Gosh which genius actually invented 45mm (90mm in 35mm equivalent) focal length! It just not too close yet too far. Perfect for me though deep in my heart I actually wanted Olympus 75mm f1.8 as well for concert shooting *grin*..

I don't edit much my photos most of the times (unless it is some model or product shooting) but something struck me last night when editing those photos and I decided to be daring in doing some unusual post processing that I would do. Hopefully it doesn't turn out as ugly as I thought. C&C are welcome!

Daily Life in Petaling Street

It was last Saturday I give up on resting at home and grab my gear to shoot at Petaling Street. Yup! It is street shooting time! I still remember the first street shooting I ever done was in Melaka back to last year. During that time I was using Helios 58mm f2, manual lens to shoot.

In the previous post (which is last year post...) I did share abit tips on my own understanding and I learned my lesson not to use manual lens anymore since it is too much hassle to adjust the focus ring and I might lost my opportunity to capture the moment especially my Olympus E-P3 being world fastest (not now but still faster than alot DSLR out there) auto focus camera! I shall fully utilize the AF speed by mounting on proper lens and I am pretty sure the moment I lift up my camera and press the shutter button I am good to go to capture any moments.

Though I learn my lesson on the past experience, I did it again this time! I actually just bought a Tamron 90mm f2.5 macro lens and hand itchy to use this lens to shoot instead my trustworthy Olympus Zuiko 14-54mm II f2.8-3.5 lens.

A little story of my new lens, Tamron 90mm f2.5. Nop this is not the current Tamron SP 90mm f2.8 lens but is it predecessors before it turn into digital. It is a manual lens with 1:1 magnificent. The built was very solid, fully metal and damn heavy. Feel like a tank and easily make my hand shake when I was shooting. 39cm minimum focusing distance, 9 blades, 10 elements and 9 group of glasses and 410g weight if you're interested with the spec. I am happy with my purchase and I am very sure this is one hell legend and rare lens.

I am not really a Macro shooter but I do interest to learn it. Beside being a Macro lens, I am very sure it is one of the hell lens that awesome for portrait shot...but I found too tight for street shooting. After all 50mm is still much more recommended. Maybe next round I shall bring along my Olympus OM 50mm f1.4 to play with (I been shooting with this lens on my Carlsberg Where's the Party last two weeks!)

Feel so good walking around Petaling Street on the morning. Get to see their early morning preparation for business and I do notice quite alot elder people still working there. No doubt it is one of the famous tourist spot.

I wanna start to adapt the habit of doing street shooting at least 2-3 times per month. I wanna explore more street for this purposes. So any recommendation where I can go? Maybe I shall do night street shooting as well. I don't mind having 2-3 friends follow around, anyone? :D
