After Earth Movie

Courtesy to Nuffnang I get to watch After Earth last night. Not premier screening but still, free movie :P

A crash landing leaves teenager Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith) and his legendary father Cypher (Will Smith) stranded on Earth, 1,000 years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape. With Cypher critically injured, Kitai must embark on a perilous journey to signal for help, facing uncharted terrain, evolved animal species that now rule the planet, and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash. Father and son must learn to work together and trust one another if they want any chance of returning home.

I guess when you heard too many bad critic on this movie and you already lower down your expectation, the movie somehow turn out to be watchable. Nothing much to shout on After Earth. It is beautifully done CG but come with crappy story. The story by Will Smith and the director fail to create better chemistry between Cypher (Will Smith) and Kitai (Jaden Smith) as father and son. Ironic isn't? Dislike how monotone and expressionless can Cypher be in the movie even when he flash back about his own daughter. Side effect of learning ghosting maybe? Or he just pure cold and heartless.

With so advance technology from them (assuming from the architecture and space ship from their planet), their weapon is pretty shitty. A sugar cane alike wood that has 40+ configuration? and a Cutlas as main configuration? Why no laser gun, high end bow or whatever long range weapon to fight with Ursa? Wait, what? Ursa? I though Ursa suppose to be some bear but turn out some ugly looking alien that doesn't look like a bear at all. Why the alien release Ursa to kill human? To feed them as food? To conquer the planet? It wasn't mentioned at all in the movie. The color changing suite wore by Kitai seem pretty useless too. Why not equipped some real battle suit for defense enhancement?

There was a pointless argument as well between Kitai and Cypher about the death of Senshi Raige where Kitai blaming his father not being there to save her while Kitai mum, Faia Raige told Cypher that Kitai actually blaming himself for Senshi Raige death. So whose fault actually? At the final battle between Ursa and Kitai also proved that Kitai actually a superman. The moment when he stop fear and learn ghosting, he stood up confidentally against Ursa as if his previous wound was nothing. Oh wait, did Cypher just said Earth is class 1 quarantine planet? But where is the danger during the adventure? It doesn't spark my curiousness and I doesn't feel nervous at all.

End of rant. Overall, I am glad I don't need to pay to watch this movie. As I said it is still watchable if your expectation wasn't high. The movie has more room of improvement to be better sci-fi adventure movie.

Apple announces iOS 7 at WWDC 2013 Keynote : new look, Siri, multitasking, toggles and more

UPDATED : Not all iOS 7 features will be available at all iDevices especially the older generation. source from GSMArena

Sadly only iPad 2 get the least features which is iTune Radio.

When Apple is ready for the next iOS announcement, I got some feeling that they will do something new and differently in order to stay strong on current competitive market. iOS 7 is the answer for that. New revamped UI and some extra features that ready to rumble against Android and Window Phone. Let's see the new features in iOS 7.

New look

After 6 version on iOS, finally the 7th iOS version revamp a brand new UI. Apple decided to use flat design on both icon and also UI elements. All system icons are redesigned around a standardized grid to unify the look. It also features an animated wallpapers (not a live wallpaper in Android) and there's a dynamic parallax effect between the icons and the wallpaper as you turn and tilt your phone.

To be honest I like this new UI. Flat but simple eventhough it looks cartoonish and colorful. However I might started to miss the sleek and elegance icon UI they used to have.

Multitasking

Finally a real multitask from iOS! Apple claim the new multitask system allows apps to update much more often, while not wasting battery.

I guess now iOS user can brat that their iDevice finally capable to do real works.

Enhanced Siri

New UI which is card-based UI and new services to provide answers to your questions (Twitter, Wikipedia and Bing, take that Google). The new Siri also capable of controlling your iDevice (increase brightness, turn on Bluetooth) and it offers a new lively voice (both female and male) for English, French and German.

New Notification Center

The notification center seem a total revamped and it offer alot info such as birthdays, weather, upcoming events from the calendar, stocks and even some info for tomorrow. Notification center will show up on the lockscreen and once you dismiss a notification, it goes away on the other devices too so you don't have to see the same notification multiple times. Pretty good!

I guess the lock screen notification kinda remind me Android 4.2 widget on lock screen. Maybe it is just me.

Toggles

I am very sure Android user familiar with toggles. To access toggles, just swip up from the bottom of the screen. The toggles able to control screen brightness and the music player, the new AirDrop feature, and AirPlay along with some app shortcuts, including a flashlight toggle.

Something I have been dying waiting for it implement into iOS. I used to hate it alot the time wasting on it when I need turn on my WiFi or data.

New camera UI

As much as I like simplicity, the new camera UI in iOS 7 is totally simple! Clean and nice. The new camera features four modes – regular stills and video, square photos with color effects (hi, Instagram) and panorama.

New Photos Gallery

The photo gallery has new UI too and provided automatic Geo tagging now. It sort your photos based on where and when you took them with automatically putting a title to the album. Zooming out shows new auto-generated albums for multi-day trips and zooming out even further groups the photos in years.

The way they manage the album kinda remind me of my current HTC One, HTC Zoe gallery. The ability to zoom in and out for album sort of like Sony Xperia album.

Updates on Safari

The Safari browser for iOS has new 3D UI for switching tabs and you're no longer limited to only 8 tabs. The browser now features a single smart search filed rather than having two fields - one for URL typing and another one for initiating Google searches. Another features is allowed you swipe from the sides of the screen to go back and forth through your browsing history.

Remind me of Google Chrome in Android LOL

New App Store

Well not visually new but the new app store now allowed automatic apps update and also suggest apps based on your location.

Facetime

The new facetime now available audio only option.

AirDrop

No NFC? No problem. Got AirDrop! It uses a peer-to-peer Wi-Fi connection to share stuff with other nearby user.

iTunes Radio

The music player get revamped too to iTunes Radio.

Weather

Looking on the weather very quickly remind me of HTC weather. Anyway the new weather allowed yout o check forecast for the next five days. You can check the weather of one location or all of them at once.

iOS 7 is available for the iPhone in beta today (If you're developer). In the Fall, iOS 7 will be available on iPhone 4 and later, iPod touch 5th gen, iPad mini and iPad 2 and later.

So what do you think the new revamped iOS 7? I like the UI alot. Simple and nice. However I still love something more customizeable especially on my main home screen. Alot features in Android finally found in iOS 7 as well. Guess the war will remain competitive and another half year to go before new iPhone and iPad come out to the world.

Restaurant Xiao Lao Wang Hotpot @ Sungai Buloh Review

Courtesy to Nuffnang, I am invited to join the tasting session on the Xiao Lao Wang Hotpot. It was located at Sungai Buloh, Kampung Baru. It is not really hard to spot since they have huge big red sign board there. They are newly opened shop currently only available at Sungai Buloh. If you're curious, it is under same group of company of LamMeeYa & Kissaten.

Xiao Lao Wang is a hotpot restaurant serving ONE and only signature soup that specially boiled with pork bone, pig stomach and chicken. This shop is to believed to strengthen the body's health and cure stomach problems. The shop is also known as "Reborn of Phoenix" by Emperor from Qing Dynasty.

* Variety of sauces *

Beside serving quality ingredients and soup, Xiao Lao Wang actually prepared a so called buffet sauce. There were a major variety of sauces to choose and make your own combination. There are chilli, sesame, fermented beancurd, premium soy, dark vinegar, shallot oil, bird eye chilli, coriander leafs, cut spring onion. minced garlic, minced ginger, delicious blended mushroom and the list go on (seriously, I couldn't remember all of them). Just give yourself a chance to mix and match the sauces and you'll know what you'r getting.

All the ingredient easily cook and fast in the hotpot. It took around 10 mins only and you're good to go to savour your stomach.

What surprise me most is once the salmon fish put into the pot, the soup instantly turned into salmon fish head shop. The heavy taste of salmon fish is well blend with the shop and I wouldn't mind finish the whole pot of soup for myself.

* The luncheon meat is one of my favourite! Is just taste differently compare with the normal one*

* Not a fans of Lap Mei Fan *

90% of Xiao Lao Wang side orders and meat balls are home made from their own kitchen. Same goes to the paste. Thumb up to them able to produce such quality meatball.

* Crispy Rice in the hotpot! *

Others hotpot shop may served Yee Mee and Mee Hoon only, however Xiao Lao Wang offered more than that. In addition, Xiao Lao Wang has crispy rice to savour the last bit of soup with. This is truly a brand new experienced for me and the combination of crispy rice and the soup wasn't disappointing.

Though I am not huge fans of hotpot since I dislike eat hot stuff, but I would love to go back to the shop again as a customer and try other stuffs!

Photograph Hui Min

Last weekend Mike invited me some shooting session after shown me some nice location. A quite last minute and random decision but I just joined in because I wanna test 2 lens of mine, Panasonic 7-14mm and also Carl Zeiss Tessar T 50mm f2.8. The model of the day is none other than Benjamin gf, Hui Min.

We did out shooting at Klang. Feel so alien at this location. We hardly get any shooting done in relaxing way since some unexpected problem happened. Not to mention out of 6 of us, 5 are with cameras. Everything has to done in the speed of light. Me being the guy has the widest lens have to really go near to shoot LOL... Anyway the first location we shoot are somewhere near the old KTM.

Next location we are shooting somewhere near the Restaurant Coconut Flower. Using my Carl Zeiss lens this time to shoot to play around with the bokeh. My lens got 14 blades aperture yo :P

No storyline for this time shooting. Just something very impromptu and done in very rush manner.

If Old One Didn't Go, New One Won't Come Part 4

Ohh I wonder how long ago since I did this kind post. I was way year 2010 I think. Sadly, one of my most important things just gone from me :( My Transcend 16GB class 10 SD card that I just bought last year from Amazon during black friday. I bought 2 and both decided to get corrupted when I using cheapo card reader. Thanks God I manage to save 1 of them and another one just certificated death. Couldn't open it at all nor restore back all my photos :(

Sigh..there are few food reviews and event photos still inside the main card that already death :( Sad die me and I have no idea how to blog about it. Gotta steal pictures from people already.

Nevertheless, something gone and something coming in right? Well not brand new memory card coming in until I see a cheap deal. It is new lens addition to my family. Oh gosh I know I am easily poisoned person but! I finally got myself my dream lens :D Panasonic 7-14mm F4! The one and only ultra wide angle lens for micro four third system..oh wait still got Olympus 9-18mm F4-5.6 but doesn't matter coz I got a cheap deal for Panasonic.

Love the wide angle lens :D My first wide angle lens after Olympus 12mm f2. Somehow I think this lens and 12mm gonna be permanently mounted on my camera body :P

Thanks to friend who I get to know from micro four third group in FB informing a cheap deal of this lens at Penang. Also coincidentally he is coming KL on weekend. Thus, I quickly request him get me the lens and I met him in KL to collect my lens. Excited!

Manage to grab the lens on 2 days ago and yesterday done a shutter therapy with friends at Klang and I use this lens for the first session. Will post up the model shooting soon and here some photos taken by Panasonic 7-14mm ;)

Guess I can die happily again. No more spending this year! I had spend alot :( HK trip is getting nearer and i shall enjoy taking photo using my new lens there. Seriously, I think I could just all the way bring 7-14mm to there enough already ;) What say you?
